Nebraska freshman Webster OK'd by NCAA

Updated: July 31, 2013, 6:35 PM ET

By Jeff Goodman | ESPN.com

Talented Nebraska freshman Tai Webster has been cleared by the NCAA to play this season.

Webster, a 6-foot-4 guard from New Zealand, will be a major part of Tim Miles' efforts to get the Cornhuskers to the NCAA tournament. Webster will almost certainly start at point guard for Nebraska this season and is likely the team's most talented player.

Brennan: Nebraska Upgrading Everywhere

Tai Webster may not be well know, but he has talent, and that's a big step for an upstart Nebraska program, writes Eamonn Brennan. Blog

"He's going to be on the floor with the ball in his hands," Miles told ESPN.com on Wednesday morning. "He's a good player. We're thrilled he qualified, and we need more Tai Websters."

Webster was pursued by numerous high-major programs following a strong performance a year ago with New Zealand in the 2012 FIBA World Olympic qualifying tournament. He also averaged 18.5 points for the Waikato Pistons in New Zealand's Basketball league last season.

Pittsburgh, NC State, Wake Forest, LSU, Vanderbilt and Saint Mary's were all involved in his recruitment. However, Nebraska assistant and Australian native Chris Harriman -- one of the strongest international recruiters -- was able to lure Webster to Lincoln.

"He was recruited at a high level, and we feel he can come right in and make an impact," Harriman told ESPN.com. "He led the national team in scoring at 17 years old, and he has huge upside."

Nebraska was 15-18 last season, but the Cornhuskers should be improved with the addition of Webster and transfers Walter Pitchford (Florida) and Terran Petteway (Texas Tech).

Appealing Kind of Recreation Fence | The Abundance Code

People take part in athletics being toned and keep the home chef. Sports don?t only enhance physique, and also increases the mental and emotional well-being of individuals. Buyer strategies in a rising Summit County real estate market ...

Jul 31, 2013 | No Responses

HBuyers hoping to buy a home in a market where prices are rising have a hard decision to make when presenting an offer to a Seller. Should they do what they might have done a couple of years ago and go in much lower than asking price in hopes that a Seller is desperate, or should they offer more than list price knowing that they might have some competition from other Buyers?
The answer is probably somewhere in the middle, but it all depends on their budget and how in love with the property they are. Most people will ask their Realtor what has been working with Sellers lately and if the Realtor has had other offers accepted he or she can help. At this time in the recovering market, Sellers are often convinced that prices are moving up strongly because of positive news in other areas. Denver?s market is very strong, as are many other parts of the country. However, resort areas take longer to recover. It takes a lot of confidence that the economy is improving before most people feel ok about buying a second home and Sellers are convinced of the improvement long before Buyers. As a result, it is sometimes hard to get a Seller to move much of the list price, but it is always worth a try! If the Seller has been kept informed of local market conditions, and if they have some level of motivation, a deal can be reached.
If the Buyers are aware of market conditions, they will be able to reach their own conclusion about how fair the price is that is being asked and if an offer close to full price is suitable or not. No one wants to overpay for a property, but in a rising market, todays?s high price might be market price in six months, and Sellers count on that. As a result, they are seldom in a hurry to sell.
Ask your Realtor to provide you with history and pricing trends for the neighborhood you want to purchase in, and be an informed Buyer. You won?t go wrong that way, and an appraisal will back up your conclusions.

Israel, Palestinians deeply divided despite renewed peace talks

JERUSALEM/RAMALLAH | Wed Jul 31, 2013 7:59pm BST

JERUSALEM/RAMALLAH (Reuters) - Israel and the Palestinians remain far apart over terms of any peace deal, officials from both sides made clear on Wednesday, a day after talks resumed in Washington for the first time in nearly three years.

Israel's lead negotiator, Tzipi Livni, said the parties "need to build confidence" after what she called an encouraging start in Washington, and disputed a Palestinian demand to focus first on agreeing the frontiers of an independent state.

"The goal is to end the conflict," Livni said on Israel Radio. "It cannot be ended merely by setting a border."

Yasser Abed Rabbo, who is close to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, forecast "huge difficulties" for the talks begun after intense diplomacy by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Abed Rabbo, speaking on Voice of Palestine radio, cited Israeli settlement construction in the occupied West Bank and said any further building there would scupper the negotiations.

He was alluding to Israeli media reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had cajoled far-right allies to back the talks by pledging to permit more settlement expansion.

Kerry has said the negotiators will reconvene in August, aiming to achieve a "final status" deal within nine months.

Previous peace talks collapsed in 2010 over settlement building in the West Bank, which Palestinians see as grabbing land they want for a state that would include the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, all territories captured by Israel in 1967.

Israel annexed East Jerusalem in a move never recognised internationally. Palestinians want it for their capital.

Abed Rabbo said borders, which the Palestinians say must be based on pre-1967 war lines, were "the first issue that must be resolved", countering Israel's demand that all issues, including refugees and Jerusalem, should be tackled simultaneously.

"Putting all the dishes on the table at once may be an attempt to undermine the process," Abed Rabbo said.

Israeli Finance Minister Yair Lapid defined the ultimate goal of negotiations as the creation of a Palestinian state in "the majority" of the West Bank, but said Israel would keep three large settlement blocs there, as well as East Jerusalem.

The Palestinians might eventually accept this "because they will have no choice", the centrist minister said. "What we are looking for is a fair divorce from the Palestinians, so that we can stand on one side of the border and they on the other."

Decades of peace negotiations sponsored by the United States, Israel's main ally, have failed to resolve the conflict.

US patent office throws out Apple's pinch-to-zoom claim against Samsung

For those of you eagerly following the seemingly never-ending legal battle between Apple and Samsung (cue crickets), a recent decision by the US Patent and Trademark Office has thrown a wrench into Apple's master plan. According to documents filed by Samsung in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California on Sunday, Apple's Patent No. 7,844,915, which covers the two-finger pinch-to-zoom gesture, was found wanting by the USPTO due to it being anticipated by other patents and declared otherwise non-patentable, much like its "overscroll bounce" claim. Apple has up to two months to dispute the decision, though whether or not that action would gain the company any ground, either with federal court or the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, remains to be seen.

Ford, Toby Keith Ride Again

Is Ford F-150 riding with Toby Keith, or is Keith riding in the flatbed of a Ford F-150? It?s kind of hard to tell. The latest chapter in their long relationship has Ford sponsoring Keith's "Hammer Down" Tour. Part of the program involves Keith giving a Ford F-150 to the winner of the Hammer Down Tour Sweepstakes, with the winner getting to choose any 2014 model year truck with a value up to $50,000. The winner and three friends also get pre-concert backstage access and private backstage barbecue with Keith. No veggie burgers allowed.

The title of the tour, with its reference to gunning an engine, says a lot about the relationship. Ford, more than any other pickup truck maker, maybe more than any other auto brand ever, has used one entertainment deal with one artist for ?one long time? to tout one vehicle.?

Yes, Ram has regular country music sponsorship deals backing new artists with programs like Ram Jam; Silverado is tight with country bard Will Hoge right now with the campaign for its 2014 Silverado; Toyota, which has sponsored the Stagecoach Country Music Festival for about seven years, used it this year as a stage for the unveiling of its 2014 4Runner SUV. Okay, it's not a pickup truck, but the Tundra is actually made in Texas, which should give the Tokyo company some credibility.

But Ford has been with Toby Keith for just over a decade, with the truck brand not just tagging along for the ride, but getting woven into the actual tour content, back story, signage, songs, and web sites, and referenced in tour titles like "American Ride" and last year's "Live in Overdrive." And since beginning its relationship with Keith, Ford has, at various concert tours, had elements of its F-150 trucks as onstage set pieces or had its truck driven onto the riser by Keith himself, and had essentially long-form ads screened before concerts.? ?

The relationship started in 2002, when Keith starred in "Ford Truck Man" ads singing "look again," which aligned with the company's plaintive tagline of the day, "If you haven't looked at a Ford lately?look again." The following year, Ford went along for Keith's polemical -- or ?Amerigasmic,? as one writer dubbed it -- "Shock n' Y'all" tour (he has said many times that he was never a supporter of the second Iraq campaign, per se), a 60-city jaunt that actually began at Ford headquarters during the automaker's centennial.?

Robert Passikoff, president of New York-based Brand Keys, explains that -- as a country singer might put it -- if it ain?t workin, it ain?t gonna work. "This is an issue about emotional engagement and believability. And [an artist] doesn?t have to have broken the morals clause in the contract for brands eventually to turn around and go, 'It's not really working,'" he says. He adds that the emotional connection that truck buyers have with their vehicles (about 80% of the consideration process, he says) makes a country artist relationship a more natural alignment if there's that same emotional and credibility connection with the artist. "You have to go to far side of the spectrum on any other auto type to find that level of emotionality,? he says. ?The issue should always be how are the two leveraging each other for the benefit of the brand. And if there is a high degree of trust with an artist, you can sell anything."

Germany to Bieber: Pay monkey bill, or else

BERLIN (AP) ? German authorities have posted a public notice urging Justin Bieber to get in touch with them about an unpaid bill for his former pet monkey Mally.

Bieber failed to produce the necessary vaccination and import papers for the monkey when he arrived for a European tour in March. Mally became the property of the German government in May when the Canadian singer failed to claim his pet.

A spokesman for the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation says Bieber has one week to pay 1,130 euros ($1,500) for the monkey's care.

Franz Boehmer said Tuesday that otherwise customs officials "have ways of making him pay" next time he enters Germany.

Bieber is already on the hook for a separate 5,000-euro bill from Munich customs.

CoolApps will not sync from Google play following device reset
My handset has been returned following a warranty repair, as part of this they've had to factory reset the device (no issues there). However, my apps are not syncing from Google Play when logging into the Play store with my google account. I'm connected on Wi-Fi and have Sync 'on' from the pull down menu. I've got quite a few apps and don't want to install manually again, the technology is there to assist! Running 4.1.2.

Any idea's please? Thanks in advance!
