TheAlliance for a responsible, plural and United World is a non-governmental organization. It is organised in an informal network of individuals, institutions and movements which, aware of the complexity of current problems, look for mutations necessary to act and weigh together on the future. They thus create a social dynamic and invent new forms of collective action.
The platform for a responsible and United World
The platform for a responsible and United World is a text written in 1993 by people of different cultures, extensive continental meetings, by socio-professional sectors or around themes. This text proposes:
- -a diagnosis of the nature and causes of the crises in our world;
- -values and principles of action to a more responsible and United World;
- -priorities and strategies.
This reference document is today signed by thousands of people either individually or as representatives of collectives, in more than 115 countries. It is the dissemination of the text which led to the launch of the dynamics of the Alliance.
The network
Community activists, researchers, business leaders, workers, peasants, youth, old, men and women of the world entier? as individuals, groups, movements, institutions. ?Allies? have in common to recognize in the platform the echo of their concerns and their values. They feel the necessity of putting in motion with other, agree on the prospects and a collaborative work ethic, and wish to contribute to this dynamic publicly.
A brief history
Locate the origins of this initiative, to recall that the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s have experienced social and political changes major marked the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 was an historical inflection point. The new globalization of financial and commercial markets, the highest of modern expansion, etc. have transformed the economy, society and culture. About capitalist globalization become the undisputed dominant system, saw the emergence of a new civil society worldwide, which stood out of the old ideological models and old methods of social and political organization. The Alliance was born in this same movement in search of new paradigms, new relationships, enhancement of interculturality, of the diversity of the new human rights claim, etc. She has appeared as a response to the need felt by a number of people to articulate reflection and action forces.
Funding
The Foundation Charles L?opold Mayer for the progress of humankind (Swiss law Foundation) has largely contributed to the financing of the work vital to the start of the Alliance under the leadership of Gustavo Marin. Beyond the personal investment of all persons and organizations that are involved actively in the Alliance, institutional or associative partners also financially support certain initiatives of the ally (e) s, generally from time to time.
The highlights
The International Assembly of the Alliance and the remote participation
In December 1997, a responsible allies of building hundred met in Bertioga (Brazil) for a week to evaluate the road taken and draw the path to follow. This was the opportunity to experiment in first world and Internet, a method of ?participation in distance? which has allies around the world follow the debates, but also to be heard, and to link to the discussions with a range of other continental meetings that were held at the same time to: Alger (Algeria); Oslo (Norway); Bangalore (India); Kigali (Rwanda); and Roubaix (France).
Continental meetings
Five meetings continental, open to all and not only internal to the Alliance, were simultaneously held between 17 and 26 June 2001 to demonstrate the will to build a new global citizenship to the scale of the challenges of today: a first step, after seven years of reflections and actions, whose object was the writing notebooks of proposals and a contribution to the Charter of the Alliance. These meetings were followed by a World Assembly of citizens to share the results.
The world citizens Assembly
It is a meeting of 400 people from all walks of life and around the world, messengers of multiple groups and movements, which is held in Lille (France) from 2 to 10 December 2001. All of the implemented work implementation in the various thematic workshops, socioprofessional networks and continental meetings of the Alliance there were presented.
The Assembly was a space to discuss common principles for the management of our planet (see Charter) and change strategies to drive in the next few decades to deal with the current impasses of our ways of life, development and governance (see notebooks of proposals).
The notebooks of proposals
Elaborated by the various groups of the Alliance, the notebooks of proposals form a collection of small books containing, for each key area, the proposals that seem most relevant to implement changes necessary to the construction of a XXIe century more just and sustainable. Their objective is to stimulate discussions both at the local level and at the global level.
Special attention is given to the identification of the actors able to put these proposals into practice. Citizens and officials, at all levels of society, must be involved in the implementation of the innovations needed without leaving them in the sole responsibility of States, Governments or transnational companies.
