PGT: Garrido, Foster share lead at Johnnie Walker

First it was wasps and bees this week at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. Then in Saturday?s third round, it was the rain.

A stereotypical Scottish storm rolled through the site of the 2014 Ryder Cup, making for soggy and difficult playing conditions. Mark Foster and second-round leader Ignacio Garrido, though, were able to manage rounds good enough to share the lead at 11-under par through 54 holes.

After making six birdies on the back nine of his first round, the Englishman Foster made just two on the second side of the third round after having made none on Friday. Those two birdies, though, came at the 16th and par-5 18th to secure a tie with the Spaniard.

Garrido was unable to take advantage of the final hole to pull clear of Foster, but two dropped shots on the back nine kept him from pulling away by a few shots. The Spaniard showed a few signs why he has struggled all season, with just one top-10 finish on the year. Nevertheless, he is happy to be in this position again.

?I feel good. I think it?s great to be back in this position. When you are, you never know when the next one is going to be, so it?s nice to have another go at a title, as you say,? Garrido said after shooting 3-under 69 on Saturday.

Foster would have preferred to be in control alone, but he will take it.

?I just kept the ball in play and just kept hitting great shots into the par fives, getting on the greens in two, making eagle chances,? he said of his round of 68.

The duo is three shots clear of five players, including Thomas Bjorn, Bernd Wiesberger, Munich winner Pablo Larrazabal, Peter Lawrie and American Anthony Kang. Yes, Kang is one of very few Americans to regularly tee it up in Europe and he is in contention for his second Euro Tour win.
